mima is one of the UK's leading galleries for modern and contemporary art and craft. The landmark building designed by Erick van Egeraat Architects is situated in the heart of Middlesbrough. mima opened to international critical acclaim on 27 January 2007.

mima hosts temporary exhibitions of fine art and craft from 1900 to the present. Featuring work by internationally acclaimed artists.

The gallery brings together the town's art collections for the first time, from Middlesbrough Art Gallery and Cleveland Craft Centre. Selected works from the collection are showcased in an annual collection show.

Exhibitions change throughout the year and admission is free.

Directions

By road From the A19 North and South, take the A66 West and follow signs for Middlesbrough. Leave the A66 at the exit signed for the University of Teesside. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Marton Road (cineworld and pizza hut are on your left). At the crossroads turn right onto Borough Road. Continue down Borough Road and turn right into Melrose Street and follow the road round the bend. Our car park is on your right.

By train mima is a short 10 minute walk from Middlesbrough train station. As you leave the train station turn left and walk down to Albert Road. Then turn right and walk towards the town centre. We are situated on your left.

By air Durham Tees Valley International Airport is 20 minutes away from mima.

By foot The main entrance to visitors is via Centre Square facing Albert Road (A172).

Venue Facilities

Access
mima is fully accessible. Wheelchairs are available on request. Disabled parking is available at the gallery. Blue badges and motorcycles are FREE. For further information please contact mima reception on 01642 726 720 (open during gallery opening times).

Braille and Large Print

Toilets
Toilets and changing facilities are available on the ground and second floors, and toddler toilets/sinks are available on the second floor. Guide and hearing dogs are welcome.

Eating and Drinking
Café Prego is a great place to meet for lunch or drinks, or to stop and have a rest while you are visiting the galleries. Serving hot and cold food, sandwiches and light meals, cakes and pastries and a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including Illy coffee. Café Prego welcomes families, and offers a wide range of food suitable for children, high chairs and bottle warming facilities. Enjoy Café Prego's special children's meal deals before or after a family activity. Dutch designer Gijs Bakker has designed the interior and furnishings

Lockers
Lockers are available on the ground floor beside Café Prego, if you wish to leave your coat or bag during your visit. They take one £1 coin, which is refundable. The shop or café will be able to help with change.

Parking
Paid parking is available at the back of mima with additional parking on Wilson Street. The entrance to the car park from Melrose Street/Grange Road is via Borough Road. mima short stay car park fees: £1.70 for 2 hours and £2.10 per hour thereafter. 8.00am - 6.00pm Mon- Sat (including bank holidays). FREE on Thursdays after 4.00pm. £1.20 all day Sunday. Blue badges and motorcycles are FREE.
